Special Features

CLASSROOM ORGANISATION: Each class has a combination of Year 7 and Year 8 students. Students stay with class teachers for 2 years.

ACCELERATE CLASS: This class caters for Year 7 and 8 students with special abilities. Identification of these students takes place through interviews with teachers, parents and students as well as through testing.

The students selected need to be divergent thinkers, self-disciplined with a strong work ethic.

LEARNING AND INFORMATION HUB: 'The Hub' incorporates a well stocked library and a workspace with access to a number of computers. Classes are timetabled into this resource as part of their learning programme.

SCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR: A highlight of our classroom Science and Technology programmes and is held every second year. We celebrate school wide participation. Exhibits are of an extremely high standard and we compete very successfully in the Waikato Science Fair.

ICAS MATHS, ENGLISH, SCIENCE, COMPUTER AND WRITING: We encourage students to participate in these Australasian exams. Participation has always been high and we have enjoyed a considerable amount of success.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION: We offer an extensive camp programme, utilising a range of venues giving our students experiences beyond the school.

SPORT: We believe that the physical development of our students is extremely important. Many opportunities are provided for our students in which they can be involved in either a personal challenge or as part of a team. Each student belongs to a sports house and each term they are involved in Inter House competition in Swimming, Athletics, Large and Small Ball games, Cross Country, and a fun Top Team competition at the end of the year.

Regular inter class competitions happen at lunchtimes with such activities as softball, netball, soccer, basketball, volleyball and tug of war. Students have the opportunity to represent the school in up to 20 different sporting codes. A highlight for the students is the annual sporting exchange held with Belmont Intermediate School in Auckland. Students also can have a week away at Totara Springs where they compete in the annual sports camp competitions between Intermediates in the North Island.

KAPA HAKA: Students have the opportunity to join this popular group. Practice is held every Thursday and is taken by our competent tutors. Students learn waiata, poi, and haka.

They have opportunities to perform at powhiri, concerts and important school functions. More able students compete in competitions in our area.
