Sport

Sport is an important part of the culture of Te Awamutu Intermediate School. During the two years spent at our school students will be able to experience a wide variety of sports exploring their interests and talents.

Through the classroom programme, our students learn a range of sporting skills throughout the year. They are given a chance to put some of these skills into practice through our Inter-Class sports competitions, which are run during lunchtimes. All our classes also take part in weekly Jump Jam fitness sessions.

They also have the opportunity to compete in a fierce Inter-House sporting competition and participate in our Swimming Sports, Summer and Winter Games, Jump Jam, Cross Country and Athletics.

Our sports houses are named after our region's awa (rivers). They are Waikato (yellow), Waipa (red), Mangapiko (blue) and Puniu (green).

Each term there are a large number of sports offered to our students both at school and through outside providers. We are extremely fortunate to have a committed group of staff members who are passionate about providing rich sporting opportunities for our students. We are a member of W.I.M.S (Waikato Intermediate and Middle Schools) sporting cluster, which provides an array of competitions for our students to compete against the best in the region.

Annually, in Term Three, the A.I.M.S. Games are held in Tauranga. Te Awamutu Intermediate students have the opportunity to compete against over 10,000 other students from across New Zealand and Australia in a wide range of sports.

Another annual highlight for the students is the Totara Springs Sports Camp, which is held near Matamata, where we compete in a range of sports against other intermediates in the upper North Island.
