SYMPHONIC BAND: Our unique Symphonic Band programme is a feature of our school, with over 100 students involved last year. A hire to buy system operates with KBB Music where students may hire an instrument. After school classes provide tuition for brass, woodwind, percussion, and keyboard. These classes support the Thursday band programme. Students have the opportunity to perform in the community, at festivals and at music exchanges with other schools.
JAZZ BAND: Band students have an option to be in the Jazz Band which happens every Thursday at 11:00am. This group also has opportunities to perform at events during the school year.
GUITAR: Beginner and extension guitar groups are offered. Both of these groups have opportunities to perform at school and in the community.
PERFORMANCE GROUPS: We provide opportunities for students to join Jump Jam, Choir, Rock Band and Kapahaka. All these groups give regular performances and represent our school at various events.
DRAMA: A school production is staged biennially incorporating all the arts’ disciplines, as well as lighting, sound production and makeup.
DANCE: Students have the opportunity to participate in creative dance, during the Music Tech Arts classes. A Social Dance programme, special to our school, takes place each year in Term 4, culminating in the Year 8 ball.
MUSIC: The class music programme, which is part of our Tech Arts cycle, includes written composition and use of Garageband on iPads. There is a focus on skill development and performance in guitar, ukulele, keyboard and percussion, as well as developing musical notation and an appreciation of musical styles within cultures.
VISUAL ART: Students will experience different media, including painting and printing, also as part of our Tech Arts cycle. Students with ability in Art have opportunities to be involved in extension programmes on a Thursday.
