Special Features

CLASSROOM ORGANISATION: Each class has a combination of Year 7 and Year 8 students. Students stay with class teachers for 2 years.

ACCELERATE CLASS: This class caters for Year 7 and 8 students with special abilities. Identification of these students takes place through interviews with teachers, parents and students, as well as through testing. The students selected need to be divergent thinkers, self-disciplined with a strong work ethic.

BOYS' CLASS: The Boys' Class has been designed to give boys an opportunity to have success as boys. In this class, different teaching strategies are practiced to address learning styles specific to boys. There are no gender stereotypes in the Boys' Class, allowing the boys to feel free to explore subjects like Numeracy, Literacy and the Arts, without fear of ridicule. Other than academic and sporting success, the major focus of the Boys' Class is about teaching boys about how they can make valuable contributions, not only to the household they live in, but also to society. The boys are taught more than just to be good young men, but to be great young gentlemen. We will be asking for expressions of interest through the enrolment process.

LEARNING AND INFORMATION HUB: 'The Hub' incorporates a well stocked library and a workspace with access to a number of computers. Classes are timetabled into this resource as part of their learning programme.

SPORT: Many sporting opportunities are provided for our students in which they can be involved in either a personal challenge or as part of a team. Each student is involved in our P.E. programme and the Inter House competitions.

Regular Inter Class competitions happen at lunchtimes with such activities as softball, netball, soccer, basketball, volleyball and tug of war. Students have the opportunity to represent the school in up to 20 different sporting codes, including our yearly Sports Camp and the A.I.M.S. Games, held annually in Tauranga.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION: We offer an extensive Education Outside the Classroom programme, utilising a range of venues giving our students experiences beyond the school.

KAPA HAKA: Students have the opportunity to join this popular group. Practice is held every Thursday and is taken by our competent tutors. Students learn waiata, poi, and haka.

They have opportunities to perform at powhiri, concerts and important school functions. More able students compete in competitions in our area.

SCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR: A highlight of our classroom Science programme, which is held every second year. We celebrate school wide participation. Exhibits are of an extremely high standard and we compete very successfully in the Waikato Science Fair.

WEARABLE ARTS: On alternate years, we have a school wide Wearable Arts event, with a focus on using recycled materials to make amazing fashion and masks.

EDUCATION PERFECT: Student in our school have access to Education Perfect to support their learning - both at school and at home. This online learning platform is aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum, and can be differentiated to individual learning needs.
