We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning School

Our school’s culture is built around the following expectations:

WE SHOW RESPECT

MANAAKITIA ATU TĒTEHI KI TĒTEHI

WE ARE HONEST

INĀ KA KŌRERO, ME KŌRERO PONO

WE INCLUDE OTHERS

KAHIKATEA TŪ I TE URU

WE NEVER GIVE UP

KA MATE KĀINGA TAHI, KA ORA KĀINGA RUA

WE SEEK EXCELLENCE

WHĀIA TE ITI KAHURANGI, KI TE TUOHU KOE ME HE MAUNGA TEITEI

These expectations form the acronym S.H.I.N.E.

This behaviour programme is based on research led by Tim Lewis and George Sugai.

They have completed much research on the behaviour of young people and have a belief that if schools plan a long term, whole school approach to developing a culture that supports learning and positive behaviour, engagement and consequently achievement will improve.

All students are taught about these expectations and students know what is expected of them in every area of the school.

Reward systems are established in all classrooms along with a student behaviour card where they can earn rewards in relation to the expectations.

Major and minor and repeated minor behaviours have been identified by all staff and there are consequences set according to identified behaviours.
